Angela Zanders – Pianist

Lecture Recitals

Angela is passionate about giving themed lecture recitals with Power Point slides to bring increased appreciation of the music she performs to her audiences. Please see LECTURER page for information.

Solo Recitals and Performance

Performing her first concerto in London when she was 14, Angela has gone on to perform widely at festivals, music clubs and concert series throughout the UK and Europe, as well as in Australia and New Zealand. Her repertoire comprises music from the Baroque to the 21st century, with a particular emphasis on the music of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert as well as the music of neglected female composers such as Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel and Amy Beach. Angela often gives recitals based on a theme and introduces the music she plays to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of her listeners. Angela is happy to discuss with concert organisers how to adapt her programmes to suit the particular event and venue.
Angela released a CD of solo piano music in August 2015, including works by Bach, Beethoven, Cecilia McDowall and her late father, Douglas Zanders.

Accompaniment

Angela has been accompanying professional and amateur instrumentalists and singers for concerts, festivals and other events throughout her career. She coached and accompanied gifted young people at the Centre for Young Musicians in London for 10 years and has given numerous recitals as accompanist with established artists throughout the UK and abroad. Based in East Hampshire, Angela is a freelance accompanist, regularly coaching and accompanying both adults and children in a wide variety of instruments and standards for music exams, concerts and festivals, with an emphasis on encouraging overall musical understanding and confidence in performance. She is currently also an accompanist at Portsmouth High School and St. John’s College, Southsea.

Chamber Music

Angela has had a particular love of playing chamber music since she was a student at The Purcell School. She formed The Solarek Piano Trio in 1992 and with the trio toured the UK and Europe performing trios from the mainstream repertoire as well as trios by lesser known women composers. Angela has performed in a variety of chamber ensembles with a number of well-established instrumentalists and regularly includes performances of chamber works in her lecture recitals. She particularly enjoys performing such chamber works as Schubert’s ‘Trout’ Quintet, Mozart and Beethoven piano trios and Messiaen’s ‘Quartet for the End of Time’.
The Solarek Piano Trio’s CD includes Shostakovitch’s Piano Trio no. 2 and the Piano Trio in D Minor by Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel.
